THE BRIEF

To create a fun, engaging and unique concept and approach to promote Lionsgate’s reboot of the Hellboy franchise, starring David Harbour.

OUR SOLUTION

We knew the key to this video was to make it as fun and relatable as possible by putting Hellboy himself, David Harbour, in some uncomfortable situations and through his own personal “hell”.

After plenty of planning, trialling and experimenting with puzzles and challenges, we decided to test David’s cool persona by putting him through an everyday task that all of our audience could relate to… untangling a tangled pair of headphones! That’s right, we challenged David Harbour to take on our unique game of Headphone Hell!

Once the concept had been tested extensively and confirmed by the studio, our content team got to work on compiling a list of fun questions that David had have to answer. Set within a 30 second time limit to ensure maximum stress for David, our in-house presenter, Simon, asked him a series of weird and wonderful questions. Questions such as “Would you rather have dry socks and wet boxers or wet socks and dry boxers?” and “Would you rather have hooves for feet or claws for hands” kept David on his toes, so to speak, and provided him us with plenty of hilarious and relatable content for our audience to enjoy.

Once David failed to untangle his tangled headphones, we knew we could increase the tension even more with another surprise in store for him… As Hellboy’s famous red hand is such an iconic part of the character, we got David Harbour to test his nerve by having a go at the Buzz Off hand game whilst we played some hellish noises in the background.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

The concept for this video was very simple but very effective.

Recognising the need for the content to be as relatable as possible, we produced a video that received over 213k organic views on It’s Gone Viral’s Facebook and reached over half a million people and successfully promoted the reboot of the popular Hellboy franchise.

The client was delighted with the outcome of our campaign and with the amount of views the video received.
